Celebrating 100 years of service to the Hicksville community
After nearly 20 years of service from the Nassau Water Company, residents began to complain as water mains were badly rusted which caused clothes and cooking utensils to be stained. 700 residents petitioned the Oyster Bay Town Board to support forming their own “Hicksville” Water District. The measure was passed on August 30, 1921, and the District was formed!

The District now has 15 wells that are constantly in use to distribute the public water supply to residents. While wells are the backbone of water distribution, the HWD’s water production plants keep your water safe. They house all necessary treatment systems which constantly test samples and rid the supply of any potential contaminants. The District now has 15 wells which, along with water treatment plant sites, currently serve the community.

The water treatment systems of tomorrow are being installed today! Advanced oxidation process (AOP) treatment systems, when combined with granular activated carbon (GAC) filters, are the only proven treatments to rid the water supply of 1,4-dioxane and other emerging contaminants. Our staff is at the heart and soul of everything the Hicksville Water District does. They constantly are working on the front lines to fix any water main breaks or manage the plants which distribute only the cleanest and safest water to Hicksville residents. Our employees’ dedication has remained constant in the past one hundred years.

We salute all of the Commissioners who have proudly served the Hicksville Water District since 1921. Their hard work has kept your water safe for over 100 years and ensured your water distribution remains uninterrupted.
