Hicksville Water District: Grumman Plume Not a Danger to Our Water

February 3, 2016

Hicksville, New York (February 3, 2016) – Residents of Hicksville can rest assured, the town’s water supply is safe of contamination from the Grumman plume. The Hicksville Water District Board of Commissioners and the District employees would like to educate residents of their year-round commitment to providing the community with clean and safe water. In fact, the District conducts water tests daily, which far exceed the local, state and federal quality standards. Moreover, the District has protocols in place to protect the health and safety of the community from the water supply becoming contaminated.

“The Hicksville Water District is aware local media ran a couple of stories last week about the ongoing groundwater contamination coming from the Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve plant in Bethpage,” said Chairman Nicholas J. Brigandi. “We received a few phone calls from District customers inquiring whether or not the plume affects our wells.  Please be aware that due to the location of our drinking water wells and the typography of the island, none of our wells are affected by the plume.  Additionally, we want our residents to know we continually make an effort to improve the water treatment process to protect our water supply.”

Water plants throughout Hicksville treat and test water to improve the quality of the water pumped prior to distribution to the consumer. Additionally as a safety guard, the Nassau County Department of Health reviews all water test results to confirm the report falls within state and county limits. Any discrepancy in the test will stop the water from being distributed to the public.
