Hicksville Water District Water Supply Safe to Consume After Hurricane Sandy

February 26, 2013

The Hicksville Water District Board of Commissioners Karl M. Schweitzer, Nicholas Brigandi and Warren Uss would like to assure residents that the District’s water supply remains safe for drinking, cooking and bathing even with Hurricane Sandy hitting the region. In addition, the District’s storage and distribution systems remain intact with no operating concerns.

“The District was well prepared for the storm, and as a result, we were able to provide our residents with the highest quality water during the storm,” said Board of Commissioners Chairman Schweitzer. “Our district personnel are working around the clock to keep the community’s water supply safe and available.”

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the District suffered only minor property damage and the District’s telephone service is working intermittently. As a precautionary measure, the District switched over to emergency generators prior to the storm to ensure that residents received no interruption in service.

The District remains in constant communication with the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management and the Hicksville Fire Department. If phone calls go unanswered, the Water District prepared a back-up plan for reporting water concerns and residents can contact the Hicksville Fire District at 516-933-6444. This is a temporary phone line set up and staffed by the Hicksville Fire District Dispatchers.
