Hicksville Water District Chairman William Schuckmann, sixth from back left; Commissioner Karl Schweitzer, fourth from back left; Commissioner Nicholas Brigandi, fifth from back left; Superintendent Paul Granger, third from back left; and Treasurer Vincent Abbatiello, third from back right; celebrated the 39 winners of the 2026 Water Conservation Poster Contest.

The Hicksville Water District (HWD) recently held an awards ceremony to celebrate the 39 winners of the District’s 2026 Water Conservation Poster Contest. An annual tradition in the District, the poster contest is held for elementary students in the Hicksville Public School District, Holy Family School and Trinity Lutheran School. Students create posters on which they illustrate ways in which they and their families can conserve water around their homes. It serves as a great way to foster an appreciation for protecting the community’s water source within local youth as we move into peak water use season and far beyond.

“Our annual water conservation poster contest is one of our favorite traditions at the Hicksville Water District,” said HWD Chairman William Schuckmann. “Water is our most precious resource, and it is incredibly important that we conserve it today and far into the future. Events like this help us bring this message to Hicksville’s future leaders, making us more confident than ever that our water is in good hands for years to come.”

Hundreds of posters were submitted to the District this year, making the 2026 contest the most popular yet. With the so many submissions to choose from, these winners represent the very best of the best:
