Hicksville Water District Dedicates Water Treatment Plant
to Longtime Commissioner, Nicholas J. Brigandi

The Hicksville Water District is proud to announce that Plant #5, located on Stewart Ave., has been officially named the Nicholas J. Brigandi Water Treatment Facility in honor of long time the Hicksville Water District Commissioner. Representatives of the Hicksville Water District and local officials gathered together for a surprise plant dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony to recognize Commissioner Brigandi’s years of hard work and dedication to the betterment of the Hicksville community.

During the ceremony, Hicksville Water District Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, William Schuckmann and Commissioner Karl Schweitzer commended Commissioner Brigandi, who has become the District’s longest serving commissioner and has worked tirelessly to study the water supply, involved in every design and detail of all treatment facilities since 1980.

“Commissioner Brigandi is a third generation resident and has always served the Hicksville Community with pride and enthusiasm,” said Commissioner Schweitzer. “For over 37 years, Nick has given of his talents and hard work keeping our drinking water safe and always looking to protect our future generations.”

The water treatment site was initially opened in 1965 and most recently renovated in 2015, when the District made substantial improvements, including a second air-stripping tower and landscaping upgrades to help the facility fit seamlessly with the community.

“It is such a wonderful honor to have a water treatment plant named after me to commemorate my years of service as Water District commissioner,” said Commissioner Brigandi. “The announcement came as such a shock, and I am incredibly thankful for the efforts of my fellow commissioners for putting this together on my behalf.”

Commissioner Brigandi has served on the HWD Board of Commissioners for almost four decades, where he worked to supply Hicksville residents with water exceeding federal and state standards. In addition to his extensive work with the water district, Brigandi has allotted 50 years as a volunteer with the Hicksville Fire Department for Engine Company #7 where he currently serves as the Sergeant at Arms and as a member of the Finance, Welfare, and Drill Committees.
