The Hicksville Water District Welcomes William Schuckmann to its Board of Commissioners

Hicksville, NY (September 30, 2014) – The Hicksville Water District recently announced the appointment of its newest board member, William “Bill” Schuckmann.  Mr. Schuckmann will assume the role of Secretary and will fill the void left by the untimely passing of Hicksville Water District Board of Commissioners Chairman Warren Uss.

“We are pleased to welcome Bill Schuckmann to the Hicksville Water District Board of Commissioners,” said Chairman Nicholas J. Brigandi. “The District still mourns the tragic passing of Chairman Warren Uss. Bill’s strong connection to the Hicksville community and experience within Long Island’s water industry makes him the most qualified person to carry out the remainder of Warren’s term.”

“I am truly honored to have been appointed to the Hicksville Water District Board of Commissioners,” said Secretary Schuckmann. “I look forward to working alongside my fellow commissioners while we continue to provide Hicksville residents with clean, safe and affordable drinking water.”

Mr. Schuckmann joins the District’s Board of Commissioners with 37 years of experience in the water industry. Mr. Schuckmann worked his way up the ladder, starting as laborer, then foremen and eventually superintendent of the Hicksville Water District. As superintendent, he was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations providing the community with over 2 billion gallons of clean, portable water. Mr. Schuckmann was an active member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), Long Island Water Conference and a member at the New York State Water Conference throughout his tenure as superintendent.  Even in retirement, he has remained a member of these organizations to stay abreast of the Long Island water industry, its issues and industry news.

Since 1971, Mr. Schuckmann is a third generation Hicksville resident and has served and volunteered within the community for many years. A member of the Hicksville Volunteer FireDepartment for the past 43 years, he has served as Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief. Mr. Schuckmann was elected to serve 3-five year terms as Fire Commissioner following his tenure as Chief. Today, he serves as Lieutenant to assist younger firefighters in Heavy Rescue Company 8.

Mr. Schuckmann has been instrumental in fundraising for the Hicksville community, assisting in local charity golf outings and raising money for various community non-profit organizations and local families in need. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Hicksville Rotary Club and previously served as president in 2001 and 2006; the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce, Special Olympics committee, Hicksville Community Council  where he currently serves on the Board of Directors.
